“So endure patiently, with a beautiful patience” – Al Ma’arij verse 5
As spring graces Pakistan with its vibrant colors and blooming flowers, nature awakens with a message of hope and renewal. The transition from winter's stillness to spring's vitality fills the air with optimism, much like the renewed spirit a Muslim woman feels when she embraces the warmth of faith. This season reminds us of the endless possibilities ahead, much like the fresh elegance a modern hijab brings to our daily attire. When we place our trust in Allah (SWT), our hearts find peace, and life's worries give way to contentment. Let's explore how the teachings of the Hadith guide us to live each day with unwavering optimism.
Optimism Begins in the Heart
At its core, optimism is rooted in the heart—a heart that remains hopeful and steadfast despite life's challenges. A sincere heart, filled with hope, is most attuned to Allah's (SWT) guidance.
Abu Huraira reported that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Call upon Allah with certainty that He will answer you. Know that Allah will not answer the supplication of a heart that is unmindful and distracted.” (Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhī 3479).
This Hadith emphasizes that Allah (SWT) responds to those whose hearts are sincere and focused. By cultivating a mindful and optimistic heart, we strengthen our connection with the Divine.
The Power of Positive Words
The words we speak hold immense power, shaping our perceptions and influencing those around us. Our speech reflects our inner state and can either uplift or bring us down. The Hadith highlights the importance of speaking with kindness and optimism.
Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “There are no omens, but the best of it is optimism.” When asked what optimism is, the Prophet (PBUH) said, “a righteous word one of you hears.”
In another narration, Abu Huraira reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said, “I am amazed by optimism, the good word, and the kind word.” (Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5422, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2223).
These teachings remind us that positive and kind words can create an atmosphere of hope and encouragement. By choosing our words wisely, we can inspire optimism in ourselves and others.
Thoughts Shape Our Reality
Just as words influence our environment, our thoughts shape our reality. Maintaining a positive mindset is essential for leading an optimistic life.
Abu Huraira narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Allah Almighty says: I am as My servants expect of Me. If he thinks good of Me, he will have it. If he thinks evil of Me, he will have it.” (Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān 639).
This Hadith illustrates that our expectations of Allah (SWT) can influence our experiences. When we think positively and have good expectations, we attract blessings into our lives. Conversely, negative thoughts can lead to unfavorable outcomes.
In another Hadith, Abu Huraira reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said, “Allah Almighty says: I am as my servant expects of Me, and I am with him as he remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I will remember him in Myself. If he mentions Me in a gathering, I will mention him in a greater gathering. When he draws near Me by the span of his hand, I draw near him by the length of a cubit. When he draws near Me by the length of a cubit, I draw near him by the length of a fathom. When he comes to Me walking, I come to him running.” (Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 7405, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2675).
These words reassure us that Allah (SWT) rewards our sincere efforts and positive thoughts abundantly. By living with faith and optimism, we open ourselves to a life filled with blessings.
